The view of Kim, Geon Heoun

At the time of twilight smearing into the infinite darkness,
but even before the shimmering remnant of the darkness become obvious in silhouette,
absence of my mind and body and the imagery of the nature come into resurrection,

revealing its inner beauty in grey tone.

The time flowing neither short nor long enough…
It is the very time that I view and feel the nature,
and engage the work of taking images.
Objects rolled over, blades of grass tired of the unbearable drip of over night dew, and
the fragrance of the frost pillars covering the world of the ripen autumn morning
smear quietly into the angles of the finger marked 4X5 camera one after another
forming layers.

Gigantic trees of the forest have been cut to be used for the beams of the known
residence or for plywood to build the humble storage, surviving out their time. There,
at every season, I went and searched for gnarls still radiating a fragrance and charm,
disclosing the inner side. Then, I repeated my stories and fused my being into the very
inner side of the gnarl.

While I stay in the dark room, I do let the world flow, fall out from the mundane matters,
bring comforts in mind and clip out things with new visions and tastes while
accentuating them. I would say that my work in a dark room is an expression of
another analogue of the yesterday just passed in this ever changing world.

김건환 시각전Ⅱ

깊이를 가늠 할 수 없는 어둠의 끝자락, 그 미세한 여명에
흔들림이 작가의 시각을 멈추게 하고, 어둠의 잔영이
윤곽을 드러내기 전,
나의 무념과 무신, 자연의 영상은 회색 톤으로
아름다운 속살이 보이며 되살아난다.

그리 짧지도 길지도 않게 흐르는 시간은...
내가 자연을 다시 보고 느끼며,
촬영 작업에 임하는 시간이기도 하다.
발밑에 나뒹구는 사물과, 밤새 내린 이슬을 못 이겨 지친
풀잎과, 깊은 가을 아침에 세상을 뒤 덮고 있는 서릿발의
미향은 손 때문에 4X5카메라의 앵글 속에 소리 없이 차곡차곡
쌓여 스며들어 있다.

산속의 거목은 잘리워져 어느 집 대들보로, 아니면 판재로
커져서 허름하게 지어진 창고의 판자 떼기로 세월을 나고
있는 그 곳에서, 자신의 속살을 내보이며 지금도 흘러내리는
옹이의 미향과 미색을, 계절마다 찾아가 이미 한 이야기를
되풀이하면서, 그 내면의 세계에 나 스스로 녹아들었다.

세상 일 흘려버리고, 일상에서도 저버리고 그것들은 마음의
위안과 편안함을 가져다주며, 새로운 시각과 미각으로 생각을
오려내고 각인하게 하는 나의 암실작업은, 변화하는 시대에
지나온 역사의 또 다른 아나로그의 표현이라고 말씀드리고 싶다.
