Art space LOO는 5월 30일 화요일부터 6월 26일 월요일까지 이은종 개인전 Metaphoric Sad Portrait를 개최한다.

Metaphoric Sad Portrait는 이은종 작가의 세 번째 적외선시리즈로, 전작인 ‘he Park’와 ‘he Tree’연작들과 함께 전시된다.

본 전시는 관람자가 전시장 내의 작품과 설치물을 '산책'을 하듯 오가는 현실의 풍경과, 그들에게 보이는 비현실적 이미지(적외선 시리즈)를 통해 새로운 하나의 풍경을 만들어내는 자리가 될 것이다.._ Art space LOO

은유(隱喩)로 포장(包裝)된 슬픈 초상(肖像)

어느 날 한강 변을 산책하며 무리를 지어 다니는 잉어들을 보았다. 권력(權力)과 맹목적 추종(追從)을 통해 형성된 세력(勢力)의 유영(游泳) 속에서 그들의 세상과 지금 내가 속한 현대 사회가 다르지 않음을 발견했다.

인간의 관상(觀賞) 욕망으로 탄생한 비단잉어가 아닌, 자연의 잉어는 탁한 물에 살고 있으므로 인간의 눈으로는 식별하기 어렵다. 하지만 적외선(赤外線)으로 촬영된 사진은 잉어가 사는 탁한 물은 맑은 물처럼 투사되고 회색의 잉어는
밝은색을 지닌 잉어로 나타난다. 이는 미디어(media)를 통한 유명인(celebrity)의 이미지 만들기와 같이 실제(實際)의 모습보다는 만들어진 허상(虛像)에 매달리는 어리석은 대중(大衆)들의 모습을 투영한다.

결국, 개인의 정체성(identity)과 의식의 부재는 맹목적이고 획일화된 현대사회의 슬픈 초상이며 유영하는 잉어 무리
의 모습에서 발견한다.

Metaphoric Sad Portrait

I saw a shoal of carp while strolling along the Han River. I discovered that their world is not much different from contemporary society I belong to when seeing that school of fish made up of blind followers.

Unlike fancy carp bred for ornamental use, common carp is hard to identify because they live in turbid water. However, turbid water in which carp lives appears lucid and gray carp appear vivid in photographs taken using infrared rays. This is suggestive of the stupid public who are more strongly
wedded to false images than genuine ones just as celebrities fabricate their images through the mass media.

After all, a shoal of carp I capture is a sad portrait of those living in contemporary society whose identities are absent and blind.
